In trying to update my DivX codec, it's asking me to close "DivX decoder filter". The task manager doesn't show any application or process of that name. What do I really need to close?

Try closing any opened audio or video players because these codecs rarely have a Windows service or GUI. Close all the running audio and video players, then perform the update and it will work normally afterwards.
